Celebrating 120 Years

On March 19, 1899, a group of happy Stocktonians, committed physicians, and Dominican Sisters gathered on the northern end of California Street to lay the cornerstone of St. Joseph’s Home and Hospital. No one present that day, could have imagined that the 25 bed, $35,000 building that they were constructing would grow into today’s 355 bed Medical Center with a history of firsts in cardiac, cancer, women’s and children’s, and emergency services, and now a major training center for physicians.

This coming March, on the Feast of St. Joseph, we will gather once again. This time to celebrate the 120 year legacy of commitment to the health of the community we call home.

Despite vast changes in advancements in medicine and technology, Dignity Health
St. Joseph’s Medical Center continues to live out our mission of serving and advocating for our brothers and sisters who are poor and disenfranchised and partnering with others in the community to improve the quality of life.

Today, we invite you to make a tax-deductible gift to support St. Joseph’s. Your gift will go a long way to help every patient in need of hope, healing, and humankindness.  Thank you.

Leave Your Legacy with Dignity - IRA Charitable Rollover

If you are age 70 ½ or older, did you know that you can make a charitable gift directly from a traditional IRA account without incurring federal income tax on the withdrawal?

The IRA Charitable Rollover provides you with an excellent opportunity to make a gift during your lifetime from an asset that would be subject to multiple levels of taxation if it remained in your taxable estate.

To learn more about the benefits of an IRA charitable rollover, contact Drew Gagner, Chief Philanthropy Officer, at (209) 467-6347 or drew.gagner@dignityhealth.org. You may also visit the planned giving section of our website at StJosephsCares.org/Legacy

From all of us at St. Joseph’s Foundation of San Joaquin,
best wishes for a very happy and healthy New Year!

Employees give from their hearts

Santa had a few extra helpers this year! St. Joseph's employees, volunteers, and physicians purchased gifts for 526 children in need in our community, as part of our annual employee-led Adopt-A-Child project. The gifts will be given to children connected to the Child Abuse Prevention Council and the Human Services Agency. Each child will receive a minimum of two gifts, inspired by items listed on their wish lists.

Since the project first launched nearly 32 years ago, our generous employees have gone above and beyond to help make this time of year extra special for kids in need.

It feels good to give.

The generous support of schools, clubs, sports teams, companies, grateful patients, and individuals like you enable us to offer many educational programs and services free of charge.  Please join us in extending a special thank you to Kids Taking a Stand on the success of their 12th annual lemonade stand, and for choosing to support St. Joseph’s in such a meaningful way.

If you are interested in making a donation or hosting a beneficiary event for St. Joseph’s, please contact Lindsay at 209.467.6347 or  email Lindsay.bureaux@dignityhealth.org

Community helping community

St. Joseph’s is proud to have received a $25,000 grant from the Community Foundation of San Joaquin to support our new Graduate Medical Education Program.

The first two residency programs, emergency medicine and family medicine, welcomed 15 residents last summer, with additional residents training in internal medicine and obstetrics-gynecology, slated to begin in July 2019.

Altogether, St. Joseph’s has plans to launch 12 residency programs over the next five to seven years. When the program is fully implemented, a total of 184 new doctors will train at St. Joseph’s yearly, making it one of the largest and most complex graduate medical education programs in Northern California.

To learn more about how St. Joseph’s is training the next generation of doctors, visit StJosephsCares.org/GME.
